Unit G321 Foundation portfolio

Hope everyone’s enjoying Half term.


When we get back we will start Unit G321: Foundation Portfolio.

This consists of researching, planning and then producing the opening credits to a new feature film.

Below is the details of all the documents and tasks that are needed to be completed and the deadlines.

The first thing will be to put yourselves in groups for this entire task. The maxinium group size is 4 and you will find it easier to be in groups of 4 as there are  a lot of tasks to do, and the best way of doing it will be to divide tasks up equally.

Deadline
Preliminary Task
·         Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.
·         This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.
·         The task must show evidence of knowledge of genres codes and conventions.

14th November
Planning and Research – 20 marks
Research
·         Initial ideas – How you came up with the genre/storyline
·         Market Research – who will watch your film?
·         Target Audience Profile – based on your market research, show who your target audience will be.
·         Research into your genre. Showing knowledge of the conventions and history of the genre. This can be done in a number of ways – written research, documentaries, mood boards.
Planning
·         The narrative of your film and blurb to go on the DVD cover.*
·         Production Schedule
·         Storyboard
·         Costume, Hair and Make-up plan
·         Medical Form*
·         Actor Contracts*
·         Risk Assessment
·         Font study and choices
·         Location Recce and plan.
·         Budget plan*

*Documents to be prepared as if you were making the whole movie.

Friday 19th December.
Production – The video
60 Marks
• material appropriate for the target audience and task;
• using titles appropriately according to institutional conventions;
• using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set;
• shooting material appropriate to the task set; including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot distance and close attention to mise-en-scene;
• using editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer and making selective and appropriate use of shot transitions and other effects.

Friday 27th March
Evaluation –
20 Marks
The four questions that must be addressed in the evaluation are:
• In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real
media products?
• How does your media product represent particular social groups?
• What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
• Who would be the audience for your media product?
• How did you attract/address your audience?
• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
• Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to
the full product?
